NBA Draft Night Trade Ideas for Every Team (9/13)

Charlotte Receives: Jerian Grant, 16th Overall Pick

Chicago Receives: 11th Overall Pick

Why Charlotte Trades:

Hornets Depth
Dwight Howard Cody Zeller Christian Wood
Marvin Williams Frank Kaminsky Johnny O’Bryant
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist  16th Overall Pick Treveon Graham
Nicolas Batum Jeremy Lamb Briante Weber
Kemba Walker Jerian Grant Ramon Sessions

This trade nets Charlotte a very solid back-up point guard for Kemba Walker while also getting to keep a solid draft pick. Jerian Grant was very solid in his role last season. Grant shot 36.6% from three, had a 114 offensive rating and 108 defensive rating, 2.5 win shares on .118 win shares per 48 minutes, and the Bulls were 2.6 points per 100 possessions better with Grant on the court. That is everything you want from a back-up point guard tht has great physical tools (6’4″, 190 pounds, and only 24 years old.)

The 16th pick is a great spot for Charlotte, and they could very well end up with a wing prospect they are targeting at 11th anyways like Justin Jackson, Terrence Ferguson, O.G. Anunoby, or Donovan Mitchell. Charlotte doesn’t have many holes on their roster, especially with the recent trade for Dwight Howard.
Why Chicago Trades:

Bulls Depth
Robin Lopez Cristiano Felicio? Joffrey Lauvergne?
Nikola Mirotic? Bobby Portis 11th Overall Pick
Jimmy Butler Denzel Valentine Paul Zipser
Dwyane Wade Michael Carter-Williams? Anthony Morrow?
Rajon Rondo Cameron Payne Isaiah Canaan

Chicago trades to get a lottery pick. They have a great young core right now to pair with their veterans Robin Lopez, Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade, and Rajon Rondo,  but they cannot pass up on the great potential of Frank Ntilikina, Zach Collins, Malik Monk, Lauri Markkanen, or whoever is available at 11. The loss of Jerian Grant is not negligible, but he is not the Bulls point guard of the future as evidenced by his inability to keep a firm grasp on the starting line-up when Rondo was deactivated. Cameron Payne has potential as well, as too does point guard Ntilikina if he’s available at 11.
